superMAMA is a performance of song, dance, poetry, and painting, that explores a wide variety of mothering experiences.
superMAMA is best described as a visual concert. It's set around a screen of white bed sheets hanging from a clothesline, lit from behind and in front. Emily van Lidth de Jeude performs a set of songs and poems about motherhood, and a group of mothers and grandmothers accompanies with dance, painting, voice and instrumentation. Much of their input appears as shadows on the sheets.
The following two videos, one poem and one song, are from the solo presentation in Colwood, B.C.
superMAMA was written by Emily van Lidth de Jeude and was originally performed by Emily van Lidth de Jeude, Lyn van Lidth de Jeude, Keona Hammond, Lidia Patriasz, Carol Fancy, Genevieve McCorquodale, Kami Kanetsuka, and Allice Bernards.
